# MATERIALSHIFT · Surface Preview

**MATERIALSHIFT** produces a **visual concept preview** of a **new surface material** on **one rigid homeware object** — not a manufacturing spec or pixel-exact copy. Supported subjects: **unbranded pitcher**, **empty planter**, or **mug** on a **plain background**, **diffuse light**, **generous margins**, **openings visible**.

- **No upload:** **text-to-image** direct generate using tested presets (brushed-metal kettle, walnut planter, matte ceramic mug).
- **With upload:** **image-to-image** — change **only** the visible material using prompts in `references/material_prompts.md` while keeping the preservation block unchanged.

No project state.

**Language lock:** This file and all of `references/` are **English only**. Reply in the **user's language**. Every `generate_image` `prompt` is **English**.

Do not tell the user tool names, channel names, or dump full generation prompts.

## User-visible speech (hard)

**Allowed lines only:**

- Need input: one short note that they may **upload a square product photo**, **pick a material preset**, or **tap direct generate** — then pause **P-empty** or **P-brief**.
- Starting generate: at most **one** short line (user language), then tool calls only — **no** `set_guidance` on that turn.
- Success: one or two sentences that the preview is ready — remind them to **review the image before use**; no URL, no prompt dump. Pause **P-done**.
- Tool failure: brief honest note. Pause **P-fail**.
- Safety block: one polite refusal. Pause **P-refuse**.

## Pause = clickable buttons (hard)

Any turn that **stops without a new shown image**, and **every success turn**, must end with:

1. One or two short sentences (user language).
2. **`set_guidance`** in the **same turn**, with **at least two** clickable options. **No tool calls after `set_guidance`.**

Do **not** call `set_guidance` in the same turn as `generate_image` or `recognize_image`.

Each button is an object with `text` and `action` (not bare strings):

- **`send_message`**: `content` is the full sentence sent when tapped.
- **`fill_input`**: `content` is starter text the user can edit (e.g. custom material brief).

Offer **2–4** options. Localize `text` and `content` to the user's language. No channel or tool names on buttons.

Before every pause turn, `read_skill_file` → `references/guidance-buttons.md`.

| Pause | When | Example intents (localize) |
|---|---|---|
| P-empty | No upload, no material choice, no direct-generate tap, no last image to refine | Brushed metal kettle · Walnut planter · Matte ceramic mug · I'll upload a photo |
| P-brief | Upload present but material unclear; or vague text without preset | Apply metal to my upload · Apply wood · Apply ceramic (`send_message`) |
| P-refuse | NSFW, hate, logos/watermarks requested, or goal is counterfeit branded goods | Direct generate unbranded mug · Upload a different photo |
| P-fail | `generate_image` `success=false` after retry | Retry same material · Switch preset · Upload clearer square photo |
| P-done | One preview ready | Other material on same upload · Next direct-generate preset · Softer lighting same material |

## When to use

- User wants **MATERIALSHIFT**, **surface preview**, or to **change only the material** on a **single homeware object**.
- User has **no image** or taps **direct generate** / **generate without upload** — run **T2I immediately** with the matching preset in `references/guidance-buttons.md` unless they already named metal, wood, ceramic, or a specific object in the same message.
- User **uploads** a square product photo — **I2I** with the selected material first sentence + unchanged preservation block from `references/material_prompts.md`.
- User asks to **retry**, **switch material**, or **refine** the last successful preview from this skill.

**Reliability notes (tell users only when relevant):** strong reflections, heavy patterns, and complex assemblies may be less reliable. Review output before use.
