AI Short Film Director
A logline in. A finished 60–120 second short film out. This is not a clip generator. It writes eight beats, locks one world and one lens, shoots 14–18 shots, designs the sound, and cuts it so it plays as a film — with a real shape, a turn, and a final image. WHAT IT DOES • Resolves your idea into three decisions: whose story, where it turns, what the last image is • Builds an eight-beat structure — quiet opening, character, hairline crack, turn, consequence, the quietest moment, resolution, final image • Locks a world bible: one palette (two dominant colours + one accent), one lens language, one signature motif • Generates one still per shot first, so quality is decided before anything moves • Shoots every shot with one movement idea — subject motion over camera motion • Makes at least four shots without a person, which is what separates a film from a character demo • Designs sound as two layers (score + optional narration) and drops the music entirely at least once • Cuts on motion, holds the emotional centre longer, and ends on the image the film promised WHAT MAKES IT GOOD • Stills before shots — this single rule is most of the quality difference • No two consecutive shots share a subject size: wide, medium, close, detail • One world, one palette, one lens — continuity reads as competence • It REMEMBERS the world, so your second film in the same universe starts half-built GOOD FOR Cinematic shorts, opening scenes, teasers and trailers, story-to-video, character introductions, vertical cinematic cuts for TikTok / Shorts / Reels, and serialised worlds. NOT FOR Music videos cut to a song, talking-head explainers, or pure product ads with no story. No real people, no copyrighted characters, no graphic violence or adult content. Original work only. Give it one line — "a night-shift paramedic finds a note in her own handwriting" — and it will shoot the film.

This skill writes the beats, locks the look, shoots 14–18 shots, designs the sound, and cuts it so it plays as a film rather than a slideshow. It also remembers the world, so a second film in the same universe starts fast. ## When to use - The user gives a **logline, a scene idea, a story, or a character** and wants it filmed. - The user wants a **cinematic short**, an **opening scene**, a **trailer**, or a **teaser**. - The user wants **continuity** — the same character or world across several films. - The user uploads a reference clip or image and says "make something like this". - The user wants a vertical cinematic short for TikTok / Shorts / Reels. Do **not** use this for: a music video cut to a song (use the music-video skill), a talking-head explainer, or a pure product ad with no story — see Notes. ## Steps ### 0. Intake — the one line that decides everything Call `write_todos`: intake → world bible → beats → shot list → stills → shots → sound → cut → deliver. Ask at most **three** questions and only if you cannot infer them: 1. **Whose story, and what do they want?** — one sentence, not a synopsis. 2. **Where does it turn?** — the single moment that changes the situation. 3. **What is the last image?** — the shot the film ends on. If the user has no idea, you choose. **If the user gives you one line, do not interview them.** Choose the turn and the last image, state both in one line, and build. A finished film beats a good plan. ### 1. World bible — and make it reusable ``` memory_query(query='film world, character, style bible, previous shorts for this user') ``` - Existing world: reuse it exactly — same character, palette, location language. - New world: define it, then persist it. ``` memory_store(key='film_world_<slug>', value='<title>; <genre>; <year/era>; <location>; <palette: 2 dominant + 1 accent>; <lens language>; <character name and one-line description>; <signature motif>') ``` A short film is **one world, one palette, one lens**. If you cannot state the palette in three colours, you are not ready to generate. ### 2. Beats — eight beats, not eight lines of plot | # | Beat | Length | Function | |---|---|---|---| | 1 | 静かな導入 | 8s | Establish world and mood. Nothing happens. | | 2 | 主人公 | 8s | Who they are, seen through what they do | | 3 | 日常の綻び | 10s | Something is slightly wrong | | 4 | 転換 | 10s | The decision or the event | | 5 | 反応 | 10s | The world answers | | 6 | 最も静かな瞬間 | 12s | The emotional centre. Almost no movement | | 7 | 解決 / 非解決 | 12s | Consequence, not explanation | | 8 | 最後の映像 | 8s | The image you promised at intake | Total 60–90s. **No dialogue is required.** If dialogue is not the point, do not add any — sound and image carry it. Save it: `create_document(title='<title> — beats', content='<table>')`. ### 3. Shot list — 14 to 18 shots Map shots to beats. Each beat gets 2–3 shots, and the rules are: - **Open wide, close in.** Start each beat on a wide, end on a detail. - **No two consecutive shots with the same subject size.** Wide → medium → close → detail. - **At least 4 shots with no person** — environment, hands, objects, light. These are what make it look like a film instead of a character demo. - **The last image gets its own shot**, held longer than the rest. | Beat | Shots | Notes | |---|---|---| | 1 | 3 | Wide environment, texture, light | | 2 | 2 | Character medium, hands | | 3 | 2 | Off-kilter frame, a detail that is wrong | | 4 | 3 | The act — one wide, one close, one reaction | | 5 | 2 | Consequence in the world | | 6 | 2 | Extreme close, near-still | | 7 | 3 | Resolution, wide + detail | | 8 | 1–2 | T
